Frequently Asked Questions
How long will
I have to wait for my guitar?
Usually 4 to
6 months. This can vary depending upon the specifics of
the order and how many others there are ahead of you.
You
will be given a delivery date in your quote which will
have these factors already taken into account.
How much do these
guitars cost?
Prices start at
$2,375 for guitars and $2,575 for basses, plus shipping
and insurance costs. This includes a Tribal Planet gig
bag, custom engraved truss rod cover, truss rod and bridge
adjustment tools, electrical outlet tester, and
lifetime annual maintenance. Choice of woods, inlays,
hardware, electronics
etc. and their effect on the cost of the guitar will be
reflected in your quotation.
Do you give any
discounts?
Yes; a 10% discount
to students and teachers of the guitar. Please call me if
you qualify.
If tung oil varnish
is so good why dont the big factories use it?
Varnish is more difficult
to spray than either nitrocellulose lacquer or shellac,
so it is usually brushed or wiped on. It also takes much
longer to dry. While many other custom builders use varnish,
it is not very cost effective for a high production factory.
Whats
the difference between your $2,375 model and one that
costs
more?
Special options,
exotic woods, more complex inlays, and other features can
all add to the cost of the guitar. However, all my guitars
are of the same quality, just as easy to play, just as well
balanced, and just as versatile, regardless of price.
What is this
lifetime annual maintenance thing and how come no one else
does it?
I am not a "build
it and forget it" kind of guy. I want to know how you
and your instruments are doing over the long haul. Seeing
the guitars and talking to their owners is the best way
for me to do this.
Why isnt
there an options list?
Because these are
custom, one-of-a-kind guitars, anything you can think
of is an option.
Are these REALLY
hand made?
I personally cut,
shape, sand, glue, solder, finish, and file every guitar
that I build, using only hand tools and basic woodworking
power tools. Purchased components such as tuning machines
and bridges come from quality suppliers and these are typically
made on automated equipment. Joe Barden pickups are made
by hand.
